Is blogging a lucrative form of passive income? If so, how much can you reasonably hope to make?
Blogging is an effective way to earn passive income. The amount that you make from blogging varies from one person to another. Popular, expert level bloggers make over 6 figures in a year while others make much less.
Why Are Page Views So Important?
Earnings from blogging are heavily dependent on page views. Translated into simpler language, this simply means that the more traffic your blog attracts, the higher is likely to be your earning potential. As a general rule of thumb, you can earn roughly 1% of the total page views. So for example, if your page views total 20,000, your earning for that month should be around £200.
Blog Advertising
Advertising is another effective way to generate money from your blog. Earning passive income through blog advertising is a proven idea for earning money. A good formula to use to calculate how much you should charge for each ad is: X pounds per month where X refers to the total number of visitors per month.
So if your blog attracts 300 visitors per day, you can expect to earn about £30 from banner ads alone.
It’s important to realise that the placement or position of the advert can make a significant impact on earning potential. If your blog becomes popular, you can also consider charging different rates for different locations on your website.
Money Earned through Affiliate Marketing Links
Affiliate links are another great way to earn money from blogging. Affiliate marketing means that you get paid a commission or percentage of every link clicked from your blog. If you are able to work out lucrative deals with popular products or services, you can expect to earn a steady stream of passive income.
Reputed and established affiliate links connect your blog to hundreds of merchant links advertising other products and services. Income earned from affiliate links can range from as little as £50 a month to as much as £5000 a month or even more. You could become a direct affiliate of a site such as Amazon, or you could sign up to an affiliate network such as Affiliate Window.
Again, the amount that you earn from affiliate links depends on the quality of the links, placement and the popularity of your blog.
You can earn a sizable income from blogging. Give yourself time to learn the ropes and do intensive research on the different modes of earning money from blogging.
However, do bear in mind that although you could theoretically create a blog or website and receive a true passive income from it without updating it, over time, this income may peter out unless the blog is regularly updated. You should therefore be prepared to dedicate at least an hour or so a week to keeping content regular and relevant, in order to keep your readers coming back for more. This may prevent it from being a truly passive income, but once established, the significant financial returns for the relatively insignificant amount of time spent on it can be hugely rewarding.
