Decluttering your home or office this Christmas

Garage Storage

We all want more space in our homes. These days, new properties are significantly smaller than older, more traditional homes, so it’s important to keep on top of your storage solutions to avoid clutter.

Here at Kentspace, we have the self-storage solutions for you. Take a look at our guide of how to create more space in your home today.

Interior Design

Interior design top tips can help to create the illusion of more space in your house. You can achieve this by using light colours within the décor, and avoiding dark paint and wallpaper. Also, try tweaks such as adding in vertical striped accessories and wallpaper, which all draw the eye upwards, helping to make the room feel taller.

Television Units

Avoid big, clunky entertainment units that can take up the whole of your living rooms. Although most furniture is pointed towards the television unit in living rooms, you can choose to opt for some more discreet shelving instead. Also, remember to declutter your shelving units too. Messy units full of books, DVDs, and clutter will add a cramped feel to the room. Also try decluttering in the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen to create more space throughout your home.

Avoid Large Items of Furniture

Bulky pieces of furniture can make spaces in the home feel cramped, and less pleasing to the eye. Also, darker coloured wood or fabric furniture can make spaces feel smaller and darker too. While you might need a large storage unit for storing all your Christmas decorations, try storing them out of sight, for instance the attic or a garage. Especially if they’re only used once a year!

Hidden Home Storage Solutions

Hidden storage can be life changing! Spaces such as under the bed or a tucked-away cupboard, should be fully utilised. Use large plastic storage boxes for bigger areas, drawer separators or shoe boxes to make the most of the space and keep things organised. Try adding some hanging racks to the back of doors to store handbags or belts. If you have high ceilings, install high up shelves above door frames, keeping items out of sight and again drawing eyes upwards to give the illusion of more space.

Some basic and solid advice. I especially identify with the comments on dark colored furniture… having light color makes a room much more open and light feeling.
